Adult/Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

More than 20 % of youth and more than 25% of adults are affected by mental health challenges.

Of those with a diagnosable disorder, only a third seek help through professional services.

How can you help?

Become aware, educated, and know how to act!

8-hour training course: Receive a three year certification in Youth and/or Adult Mental Health First Aid Provided by Mental Health America and certified through the National Council for Behavior Health.

Mental Health First Aid is the initial help offered to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate treatment and support are received or until the crisis resolves.

What Participants Learn:

  • Risk factors and warning signs of mental health concerns
  • Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis and substance use
  • A 5-step action plan to help someone in crisis or developing a mental health concern
  • Available evidence-based professional, peer and self-help resources
  • Prevalence of mental health problems
  • Signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance use disorders
  • Crisis first aid for:
    • Traumatic events
    • Acute psychosis
    • Overdose and withdrawal
    • Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
    • Panic attacks
